A Balek Family Benefit will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the McCann Center in Newton.
The event will include a spaghetti supper, super bingo and a silent auction. Funds raised from the event will go toward Jerry Balek and his family as he battles Bartter and Gitelman Syndrome. This is a rare disorder that doesn’t allow him to stabilize magnesium and potassium in his blood system.
Balek and his family have been a part of the community since 1999, and have been active at Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus and Boy Scouts.
