Lois Cadden, 90, of Grinnell, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Philip Ryan officiating. Pianist will be Marilyn Kriegel and vocalist will be Rhonda Minner. Casket bearers will be David Cadden, Matthew Cadden, Allison Cadden, Nicole Brodersen, Ryan Brodersen, Doug Wickham, Steve Johnston and Kenny Cadden. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home beginning at noon Friday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. A reception will follow the service at Hazelwood Cemetery Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grinnell. Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Manor in Grinnell and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Lois was born Feb. 15, 1926, near Prairie City, to Roy and Marjorie Harris French. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Prairie City High School. Following her education, she worked for 19 years in the accounting department of the Maytag Company in Newton. On June 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to Donald Cadden in Colfax. The couple lived briefly in Newton, and later lived in Grinnell. She was a mother of two children and a homemaker. Lois enjoyed cooking, reading, family gatherings, shopping and attending garage sales.

Survivors include her husband, Don Cadden of Grinnell; two children, Michael (Connie) Cadden of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Lisa (John) Brodersen of Ankeny; five grandchildren, David, Matthew and Allison Cadden and Nicole and Ryan Brodersen; and two sisters, Laura Wickham of Newton and Louise (Byron) Johnston of Mitchellville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Daniel Cadden; and one brother, Robert French.
