• A 17-year-old juvenile is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called at 9:45 p.m. May 5 to the 1000 block of West Fifth Street South. Officers were told a stolen purse was seen in the juvenile’s room. Consent was given to search the room and officers found the purse. The juvenile was cited and released to appear.

• Bobby L. Quick, 30, of Newton, is charged with interference with official acts, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities pulled him over at 11:20 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of North Second Avenue West. Officers found 3.6 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. When asked to exit the vehicle, Quick refused and resisted once out of the vehicle. Officers used a taser and handcuffed him. Officers also found a pipe in his pocket. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael L. Pitts, 38, of Pella, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called at 12:18 p.m. Saturday to the 500 block of West Third Street South. Officers were called about a domestic situation and found Pitts leaving the residence. When officers stopped him to speak with him, he tried to hide a pipe and a knife in the back of his truck. After being searched, officers also found a small baggy of methamphetamine on Pitts, which he said did not belong to him. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Nicholas J. Rink, 30, of Newton, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield upon left turn and driving while license under suspension after authorities were called at 2:15 p.m. Friday to the intersection of First Street North and North 19th Avenue West. Tonya Brunner was traveling west on North 19th Avenue East and hit Rink’s vehicle, which failed to yield and turned left in front of Brunner. Rink then left the accident without providing information. Brunner’s vehicle had approximately $3,500 in damage while Rink’s had approximately $1,500 in damage. He was cited and released to appear.
