Department

• Matthew T. Saners, 29, of Oskaloosa, was arrested on a Mahaska County warrant after authorities were called at 9:11 p.m. Saturday to Hy-Vee Gas. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Joseph A. Howell, 21, of Newton, was arrested on a Marshalltown Police Department warrant after authorities were called at 11:11 p.m. Friday to 901 S. 13th Ave. E. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Katie E. Rodewald, 31, of Newton, was arrested on a Jasper County warrant after authorities were called at 4:02 a.m. Sunday to 1225 First St. N. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Glenn H. Vanbalen, 44, is charged with fourth-degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called at 6:50 a.m. Thursday to 1701 S. Eighth Ave. E. Officers were told about keys that were taken from a locker room at the Newton YMCA. Video showed a woman leaving the locker room with the keys, then leaving the building and handing them to Vanbalen. The two then circled the parking lot looking for the vehicle then after finding it, left the lot. The woman admitted to finding the keys. Vanbalen and the woman are not members at the YMCA and gained access by saying that her daughter forgot her bag. The woman threw the key in the grass. A replacement for the key totaled $215. Vanbalen admitted to having a pipe and syringe on him following his arrest. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Darlene H. Vanbalen, 40, is charged with fourth-degree theft after authorities were called at 6:50 a.m. Thursday to 1701 S. Eighth Ave. E. Officers were told about keys that were taken from a locker room at the Newton YMCA. Video showed Vanbalen leaving the locker room with the keys, then leaving the building and handing them to a man outside. The two then circled the parking lot looking for the vehicle then after finding it, left the lot. Vanbalen admitted to finding the keys. Vanbalen and the man are not members at the YMCA and gained access by saying that Vanbalen’s daughter forgot her bag. Vanbalen threw the key in the grass. A replacement for the key totaled $215. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Hannah M. Arends, 21, of Newton, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called at 2:48 p.m. Friday to 719 First Ave. W. Officers were assisting with a DHS call and found a glass pipe and metal grinder on the coffee table at the residence. After searching the property officers found another pipe and container for marijuana. She was cited and released to appear.
