Pay library fines with donations to Jasper County Food Bank

Pig-Tales Storytime

Special guest and local celebrity, Joy the Pig, is visiting story time at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Joy is the mascot of the Capitol II Theatre in Newton, and always a storytime crowd-pleaser. Children of all ages are invited to listen to a story and meet Joy.

Food for Fines

Pay down your fines with food. During the week of May 16th the library will waive overdue fines in exchange for a food donation. Donations must be canned or otherwise non-perishable food items. All donations go directly to the Jasper County Community Food Bank. One food item equals $1 in library fines. Call 641-792-4108 with questions.

Adult Coloring

Relax with adult coloring at the library at 6 p.m. May 16. The latest artistic craze is coloring books for adults. Adult coloring books have more intricate designs and patterns. They offer a fun and unique way to unwind and express creativity. All materials provided.

Introduction to Facebook

Join our Public Services Librarian at 2 p.m. on May 18 for an introduction to the popular social media website, Facebook. Learn how to set up your own Facebook account, find your friends, and share photos. Registration and an existing email account are required. The Birds & the Bees:
Preserving Iowa's Pollinators

Natasha Bures from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will be at the library at 6 p.m. May 23, to talk about the different pollinators native to central Iowa and what you can do to protect them. This program is free and open to the public.

DASH for the STASH

As a part of National Literacy Month, the Newton Public Library is participating in DASH for the STASH, an investor education program and contest taking place through May 15. Library patrons are invited to compete for a chance to win a $1,000 IRA contribution. Just visit the information desk and answer four quiz questions to play.
