MONROE — Without all of its contingent from Colfax-Mingo, the Prairie City-Monroe girls soccer team was no match for Class 1A No. 7 Gilbert on Tuesday night during a Heart of Iowa Conference tilt.
Junior Abby Waddell’s penalty kick goal cut the Tigers’ lead to 6-1, but Gilbert won its ninth straight match with a 9-1 road victory.
It was the 14th goal of the year for Waddell. Gilbert (9-1 overall, 2-0 in HOIC) got six goals from Olivia Stearns in the win. Stearns now has a state-high 33 goals on the season.
PCM (5-9, 2-2) plays at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Ballard.
