• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

• Meal & Meeting will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, 889 Highway F36 W. in Newton.

• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at noon Friday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

• Penny Bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Jasper County Senior Citizens Center, 702 E. Third St. S. in Newton.

• Project AWAKE Annual Plant Sale pre-sale will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, 3000 N. Fourth Ave. E. This is the first opportunity for gardeners to select plants. The pre-sale includes a heirloom tomato seminar by Andy Stone and refreshments will be served. A freewill donation of $5 is asked for pre-sale admission.

• Pancake Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday at Cabin in the Park in Kellogg. The final breakfast of the spring. The Kellogg Lions club will serve the cakes, sausages, scrambled eggs, juice and beverage for your donation which will be used to fund local Lions Club Projects.

• Project AWAKE Annual Plant Sale will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, 3000 N. Fourth Ave. E. There is no admission fee. All sales and donations go directly back to the Newton Arboretum.

• Conversations with the Candidate will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Prairie City Library. Wes Breckenridge, Democratic candidate for Iowa House District 29, invites all citizens to attend and ask questions or address concerns.

• 25th Annual Walk for Life will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton. Walk will cover 1.9 miles. With questions, call 641-792-3050 or email pcci@iowatelecom.net.

• Nature Tots — Peek at Plants will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City. The program is free and open to the public. Register for this program to ensure enough materials and personnel for all participants.

• Peer Support for those living with mental illness will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Optimae Life Services, 1730 First Ave. E. in Newton.

• Cinco de Mayo Festival will meet at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cocina Hernandez, in Colfax. Cocina Hernandez will host kids games from 3 to 6 p.m. including Plinko, water gun fights, sack races and a hula hoop contest. A street dance and a jardín de la cerveza (beer garden) will keep the fiesta going from 6 to 10 p.m. A D.J. will energize the dance floor with a playlist of Salsa, Cumbia, Reggaeton and Mexican Hip-Hop music.

• Chamber Singers Concert will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, 220 N. Second Ave. E. Newton. Central College Chamber Singers perform in collaboration with the First Presbyterian Church and Newton High School Choirs. This event is free and open to the public.

• Narcotics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.
