• Dennis G. Devore, 28, of Newton, is charged with assault by inmate with bodily fluids or secretion after authorities were called at 6:28 p.m. April 8 to 307 S. 60th Ave. W. Devore, who is an inmate at the Newton Correctional Facility, assaulted a correctional officer by throwing a cup of urine on him. It hit the officer in the face, neck, chest and hands. Devore was later found to be bragging to other inmates about what he had done because he is infected with Hepatitis C. He was kept in custody.

• Christopher M. Ratcliff, 40, of Grinnell, is charged with providing false identification information after authorities pulled him over at 3:45 p.m. Monday at 11188 Highway 6 East. While speaking with officers, Ratcliff lied about his name and gave his brother’s name. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Nathaniel D. Bowers, 22, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to 2713 Highway 14 S. Officers were called after Bowers was seen on surveillance cameras placing parts from used cars into his clothing by employees. When confronted by officers, he showed the parts that were taken and said he did not have enough money to buy them. They were valued at less than $200. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Monte P. Metz, 42, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to 2713 Highway 14 S. Officers were called after Metz was seen on surveillance cameras placing parts from used cars into his clothing by employees. When confronted by officers, he showed the parts were taken and said that he took them for a friend. They were valued at less than $200. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• John P. Sumner, 31, of Kellogg, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled him over at 6:29 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Water Street and Railroad Street in Kellogg. Officers could smell alcohol coming from Sumner, and he had slurred speech and water, red eyes. He admitted he had too much to drink and had also taken two hits of marijuana. He had a BAC of .183. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jessica R. VanTomme, 31, of Grinnell, is charged with carrying weapons while intoxicated and operating while under the influence after authorities responded to an accident at 5:03 a.m. Sunday in the 13300 block of Justice Avenue in Grinnell. Officers found VanTomme in her vehicle she drove into a ditch. She smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, water eyes. She admitted to having alcohol prior to the accident. VanTomme admitted to having a firearm in the center console of the vehicle. It was found with/next to a magazine loaded with ammunition. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael C. VanTomme, 35, of Grinnell, is charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to an accident at 5:03 a.m. Sunday in the 13300 block of Justice Avenue in Grinnell. Officers smelled alcohol coming from VanTomme and he had slurred speech and bloodshot, droopy and watery eyes. He had a BAC of .172. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael A. Geerlings, 23, of Newton, is charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief after authorities were called at 1:30 a.m. Sunday to the 3900 block of East Fifth Street South. Officers were called about a vehicle driving through a farm field. The vehicle tracks caused damage to the field that had recently been planted. Damages were estimated at $500. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Stacy L. Njoroge, 35, of Montezuma, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called at 6 p.m. Dec. 22 to 502 East St. in Lynnville. Njoroge paid for gas in the amount of $41.66 with a bad check on a closed account. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
