Newton Police Department

• Charles A. Francis, 46, of Montezuma, was arrested on a Poweshiek County warrant after authorities were called at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to the Mid-Iowa Motel. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jason J. Deegan, 41, of Pleasant Hill, is charged with second-degree theft after authorities were called at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to 912 First Ave. W. Officers were called about a vehicle that had been sold but the check could not be cashed because the account had been closed. A starter check had been written for $1,300 from an account that was closed on March 16. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Tommy D. Sanders, 51, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called at 12:51 a.m. April 23 to 702 First Ave. E. Officers were called about a cell phone theft. The victim had left her phone on the counter at New Star and Sanders claimed it was his phone. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• A 17-year-old juvenile is charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and trespass after authorities were called at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday to the 1800 block of First Street North. Officers were called about a fight in which three individuals chased the victim to his home. When they were told to leave the property, they refused and assaulted the victim. He was cited and released to appear.

• Tyler A. Saltzman, 21, of Newton, is charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and trespass after authorities were called at 3:44 p.m. Wednesday to the 1800 block of First Street North. Officers were called about a fight and spoke with the victim who said Saltzman and another person were on his property and told to leave. They refused to leave and assaulted the victim. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Terron A. Saltzman, 18, of Newton, is charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, interference with official acts and trespass after authorities were called at 3:44 p.m. Wednesday to the 1800 block of First Street North. Officers were called about a fight spoke with the victim who said Saltzman and another person were on his property and told to leave. They refused to leave and assaulted the victim. Saltzman fled the area and was found a short time later. He refused orders to get out of the vehicle he was in and actively resisted officers. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Tony J. Marlin, 47, of Bussey, is charged with driving while license denied, driving while barred and operating without interlock after authorities pulled him over at 5:27 p.m. Sunday at 503 W. Pleasant View Drive in Prairie City. Officers were called about Marlin taking wood from a construction site. The owner told him to put it back and he did. Officers found that he did not have a license while driving. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Chance A. Kinney, 22, of Newton, is charged with assault by inmate with bodily fluids or secretion after authorities were called at 12:45 p.m. April 6 to 307 S. 60th Ave. W. Kinney, who is an inmate at the Newton Correctional Facility, assaulted two employees at the facility by throwing a cup full of urine water from the toilet. The liquid sprayed on their clothes and their faces and hands. He was kept in custody.
