Breckenridge is a man of integrity

I first met Wes Breckenridge when he appeared at my door in 2010 to introduce himself and was seeking my advice and support. He was sent to me by the honorable Sen. Dennis Black. Sen. Black and I are friends, worked together on the Conservation Board, and I had served on all of his campaigns throughout all of his years of service for us in Jasper County. At that time, both of us were still mourning the recent death of Rep. Paul Bell. Both Dennis and I had spoken at Paul’s funeral. So, naturally, we were acutely interested in filling his seat with a worthy candidate.

After spending an hour talking with Wes and discussing issues, I became convinced that this young officer, like Paul Bell, was a man of integrity and dedication who would represent our district well. I gave Wes my support.

In the past years, I have worked with Wes Breckenridge in several areas of Democratic issues, supporting fundraisers, working for different candidates and discussing serious issues. I was pleased when he made the announcement for his candidacy. He does have a positive approach for solving problems, he is more than willing to communicate with everyone, and will work to unite us in a respectful manner.

Wes is well informed about natural resource issues and has done his homework on conservation. As a longtime member and the present chair of the Jasper County Conservation Board, I look forward to working with him.

I was pleased when I read his letter on April 27, “Women Need Affordable Health Care.” I couldn’t agree more, as past president of Jasper County Planned Parenthood.

His work on Newton Says No to Human Trafficking also reflects his deep concern for justice for all. He puts his words into action as he has done as a DARE officer. I am a retired teacher of 30-plus years in the Newton schools. I am well acquainted with the work of the DARE program and the need for drug education for our young people.

I am honored to serve as co-chair for Wes Breckenridge, an intelligent, articulate candidate who is open to all your questions.

Please join me and the other citizens who signed on in the April 26 endorsement ad. Vote Wes Breckenridge on June 7.
