Newton Trap Team takes 11th at Big Springs Range

SEARSBORO — Bryce Romick led the Newton Trap Team in Saturday’s trap shoot meet hosted by Montezuma at Big Springs Range. Romick hit 41 out of 50 targets to place 10th out of 70 varsity male shooters.

Newton’s varsity squad finished 11th out of 13 teams, as the shooters combined for a 147 score. The Cardinals had one full varsity squad and one full junior varsity squad competing.

Newton’s junior varsity squad placed sixth out of seven, with a combined shooting score of 131. Devon Young was Newton’s top male shooter in the junior varsity division, hitting 31 targets for 23rd place out of 49 shooters.

Allison Ulrey was Newton’s top junior varsity female shooter. She hit 29 targets to place fourth out of 16 shooters.

Other teams competing were Grinnell, Marshall County, North Mahaska, Knoxville, Sigourney, BGM and Ottumwa.

Newton competes Monday at the Marshall County Gun Club in Marshalltown.

The Cardinals shoot Saturday at the Jasper County Gun Club in Newton at a meet hosted by Ankeny.
