Man takes plea deal in fatal shooting case

OTTUMWA — A man accused in a fatal Ottumwa shooting has pleaded guilty to several charges. Dustin McDanel, 25, pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter, attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and fleeing to avoid prosecution charges in a plea agreement with prosecutors. He faces up to 70 years in prison. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 13.
