Waddell’s big night leads PCM past Knoxville

KNOXVILLE — Junior Abby Waddell scored four times and senior McKinzie Tjaden had three assists for the Prairie City-Monroe girls soccer team Monday during a non-conference match with Knoxville.

The Mustangs and Panthers were tied at two at halftime, but PCM broke the tie in the second half and then added another one for good measure during a 4-2 road victory.

Waddell now has a team-high 10 goals on the season. Tjaden, who led the Mustangs in goals last year, now has a team-high five assists.

Freshman Camryn Wignall also had an assist for the Mustangs, who ended a four-game losing streak to improve to 4-8 on the year.

Knoxville has lost two straight and three of its last four.

The Panthers are now 2-4 on the season. PCM took 29 shots and 18 of them were on goal. Waddell converted four of her five shots on goal.

Freshman McKeely Tjaden got the win in goal for the Mustangs. She had 12 saves on the night.

PCM plays at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Collins-Maxwell/Baxter. The Mustangs defeated the Raiders 10-0 at home earlier this season.
