PCM, Colfax-Mingo finish third, fourth at Rocket Relays

EDDYVILLE — Seniors Gunnar Davis and Austin Sneller and juniors Noah Clark and Chris Ellens all won individual titles Tuesday, and the Prairie City-Monroe boys track and field team placed third during a windy night at the Rocket Relays.

Colfax-Mingo got victories from seniors Jacob Lietz and Colin Lourens, helping the Tigerhawks finish right behind the Mustangs in the large-school team standings.

Pekin won the Class A Division standings with 154 points. BGM finished second with 100, and the Mustangs were 1 1/2 points back in third. Colfax-Mingo scored 60 points in fourth, while North Mahaska (47) rounded out the top five. The rest of the field included host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (44), Van Buren (43.5) and Pella Christian (11).

The Mustangs got two wins in the field events. Clark was the discus winner as his best toss covered 147 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Clark’s win came against BGM’s Cooper Puls, who will throw in the Drake Relays later this week.

Davis grabbed his third title of the season in the shot put with a throw of 44-0 1/2.

Lourens won another long jump title. His best mark Tuesday covered 18-10. PCM’s Luke Greiner earned the silver medal with a leap of 18-5.

The Tigerhawks’ 4x400 relay sprinted to the silver medal. Blake Summy, Gabe Simpson, Lourens and Lietz finished in 3:40.63.

Lietz turned over a 50.2 quarter during his leg of the distance medley relay. That foursome included Summy, Lane Dunblazer and Simpson as they collected a bronze medal with a time of 3:52.73.

Colfax-Mingo’s senior twins Michael and Nicholas Deal were right behind Clark and Puls in the discus. Michael Deal took third in the event with a personal-best throw of 136-5 1/2. Nicholas Deal was fourth with a toss of 133-3.

PCM finished third in three relays.

The 4x100 relay featured Greiner, Davis Herndon, Preston Van Wyk and Tyler Dredge, and that foursome finished in 47.3.

Greiner, Van Wyk and Dredge joined sophomore Noah Henkenius in finishing third in the 4x200 relay. That group stopped the clock in 1:37.6.

The shuttle hurdle relay also was third. The foursome of Cole Dustin, Jarron Trausch, Nick Buswell and Sneller finished in 1:07.27.

PCM hosts its boys-only meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Colfax-Mingo also will be in attendance.
