DES MOINES (AP) — Members of the Iowa Legislature continue to negotiate on a series of bills that will make up the next state budget.
Lawmakers in the Republican-controlled House and Democratic-majority Senate announced Monday and Tuesday the creation of several special legislative committees. The joint committees are formed when lawmakers can’t agree on legislation.
The committees will negotiate budget bills that include funding for health and human services, infrastructure and transportation.
Some legislation for the nearly $7.35 billion budget has been approved for Gov. Terry Branstad’s review. They include bills on funding for agriculture and the judicial branch.
The split Legislature does not have a set adjournment date for the session, but lawmakers’ reimbursement payments for daily expenses ended on April 19. Legislative leaders have indicated they’re working toward adjournment.
