I love weekend projects

We have a good thing going at my house ... an easy, calm, relaxing existence. However, on occasion, someone throws a monkey wrench into the mix. Sometimes it’s the hubby. Sometimes it’s me. This time it’s going to be me.

I’ve got plans for our weekend. My grandson needs a treehouse at the “farm,” where Nana Dana and Papa King live.

This whole idea actually started with Papa King. He spent too much time during the winter watching those television programs where people spend thousands and thousands of dollars building these extravagant treehouses. The hubs talked numerous times about building one for our grand, on a much smaller scale of course, and mentioned positioning the structure in three trees in our backyard — still a bit delusional. (This is exactly why I should control the viewing habits of my other half.)

Let’s get real here. The kid is only 4-years-old! Just a little structure for a little boy is all I’m looking for.

So anyway ...

Last week I started working on my mental blueprints for that treehouse and I know exactly how I want it to look when it’s done. I just have to convince the guy with the tools to build it... and in a tree.

I’ve shown him my ideas for the treehouse and he hasn’t shut me down. To me, that’s the same as a “two thumbs up.”

Yes, he’s going to mumble a little. Yes, he’s going to grumble a bit. But with any luck, he’s going to build it. Of course, I’ll be right there helping as much as I can, given he’ll have power tools and, shall we say, a less-than enthusiastic attitude.

Naturally, I will remind the hubs how he always rolls his eyes at me when I utter the dreaded words “I’ve been thinking.” Not to mention, this was originally his idea. I’m just the one that is running with it.

But I know once he completes the project and sees our grand playing up in the walnut tree in that modest, diminutive structure, he’ll again realize all the mumbling and grumbling was worth it.

Yep, it’s time to build that little boy a treehouse.
