I am writing to thank Rep. Dan Kelley for his support for Equal Pay for Women, an issue that has plagued our country since women first entered the workplace. The injustice of this is obvious; if women were paid more than men in the same position, the Equal Pay for Men Act would pass without discussion! I also want to thank Rep. Kelley for his lonely votes against gun silencers and loaded weapons on ATVs. He voted for me on both issues.
I am baffled at the amount of time, energy and press these issues get when we have such urgent needs regarding funding for education (how will a mandate regarding reading skills for third graders help if the program never goes into effect because it isn’t funded?) and water quality needs as well as other issues that affect every Iowan. Rep. Kelley is doing a great job of representing important values and not “going with the crowd” when the crowd is headed in the wrong direction.
