NFD responds to Midtown Building in latest false alarm

Newton’s Midtown Building has experienced a couple of fire alarms in the past couple of weeks. The latest happened at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

“There was no fire or issue — just a malfunction in the alarm system,” Newton Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik said Friday morning.

Wellik said EasyKeep, the management company that oversees the Midtown Building, has contacted their alarm company.

“Hopefully, this has resolved the issue,” Wellik said.

The chief said the department protocol for the older buildings in the downtown area is not much different from responding to other types of calls.

“The only difference is for commercial properties we typically run the ladder truck to the call,” Wellik said. “For all fire responses — whether alarm or actual — we send all available personnel.”
