Margaret Lucile Mottet

Margaret Lucile Mottet, the daughter of Othaniel George and Margaret Elizabeth (Fuhs) Failyer, was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Ottumwa. On June 25, 1946, Margaret was united in marriage with John “Jack” Mottet in Ottumwa, and they made their home in Newton. Margaret devoted her life to her family. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.

Margaret died Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. She was 92 years old. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Mottet on March 11, 2004; and a brother, Kenneth Failyer.

Those left to honor Margaret’s memory include her daughter, Mary (Lynn) Altemeier of West Des Moines; her son, John (Sherry) Mottet of Norwalk; her daughter, Joanne Mottet of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and her son, Eddie Mottet of Ames; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; her sister, Cecilia Durflinger; her brothers-in-law, Msgr. Marvin Mottet and Ben Mottet; sisters-in-law, Val Mottet and Donna Failyer; and her many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 15 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. A time of visitation with the family will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A public vigil service will begin at 6 p.m. Memorials may be designated to Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery or to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
