Volunteers make Cross Walk a success

Newton’s cluster of downtown churches allows for joint worship opportunities on a regular basis. Good Friday 2016 provided another chance for Christians from all parts of town to come together and participate in the Stations of the Cross Walk. Sponsored by the Mission Coalition, an ecumenical group of local churches that exists to support mission efforts in our community, this annual event allows believers to reflect on Jesus’ final journey while traveling from church to church.

We would like to thank the churches that provided worship spaces for the event: St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, Congregational United Church of Christ, First Christian Church and First Lutheran Church.

We would also like to thank the individuals who provided leadership in some way during the walk: Karen Crawford, Mery Halstead, Steve Halstead, Winonah McGee, Jim Tracey, Merle Smith, Skye Koenen, Mickey Van Baale, Gary Parsons, Meghan Davis, Jane Repp, Dave Stolper, Ken Johnson, Ann Raygor, Marianne Spaur, Bruce Hoffmeier, Judy Manusos, Don Freeman, the youth of First United Methodist Church, Duane Hobbs, Carolyn Hobbs, Lori Goodman, Craig Armstrong, Stormy Storms, Mark Young, Connie Wilcox, Bruce Curtis, Bev Curtis, Bill Ehler, Zach Bey, Bob Sandquist, Sarah Sandquist, Marlys Amundsen and Julie Bey.

Good Friday 2017 will be on April 14. All believers are invited to join us as we reflect on the significance of Good Friday’s events, worshiping in repentance while looking forward with thanksgiving to Easter.
