Erwin E. Gillette

Erwin Gillette of Altoona, formerly of Newton, passed from this life Saturday morning, April 9, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Erwin Eugene Gillette, 79, the son of James and Betty (Kirts) Gillette, was born Aug. 3, 1936, in Attica, Ind. He was a graduate of the Albia Senior High School. On Oct. 25, 1969, Erwin was united in marriage with Dixie C. Stubbe in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Erwin was employed by the Maytag Company in Newton, retiring as a senior system analysis, after 45 years of service. Erwin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed his grandsons and followed them in their activities, enjoyed NASCAR races and keeping his personal cars spotless.

Erwin is survived by his wife Dixie of Altoona; his daughter Shawna R. (Rusty) Ringler of Altoona; Tresa (Martin) Fredstrom of Tustin, Calif.; a son Allan Gillette of Leadville, Colo.; his grandchildren, Chase Ringler, Trey Ringler and Nick Ringler, Tangeree (Jerome) Fletcher of Denver, Colo., and Danielle Payne of Denver; great-grandchildren, Jaatari and Jorryn; his sisters, Maxine (Jerry) Peterson and Lucille Nevins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Deana Parrott; and sister Shirley Concannon.

A time of remembrance and funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 13 at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Erwin's name with his family or a charity of your choosing.
