Hawks’ Ehresman, McCoy win events

PELLA — Lynnville-Sully’s boys won six events at Tuesday’s Pella Christian boys’ quadrangular track meet.

“It was a great meet for us,” Lynnville-Sully head coach Mike Parkinson said. “It was crazy windy out there, but the experience was worth it. Everyone got a lot of opportunities to run, jump and throw. We saw great effort and improvement from our earlier meet.”

Sage Ehresman turned in the top individual performance for the Hawks, winning three events. He led a 1-2-3-6 finish for Lynnville-Sully in the discus with a top throw of 128 feet, 3 inches. Noah Engle placed second at 121-2, Jesse Van Wyk took third at 110-1, and Isaac Collins was sixth at 87-5.

Ehresman claimed the winning throw of 47-1 in the shot put. Rylan James placed fifth at 38-5. On the track, Ehresman won the 100-meter dash in 12.01 seconds followed by teammates Nate Stock in third at 12.12 and Sage Zylstra in sixth at 12.50.

Corey McCoy recorded a first-place time of 54.91 seconds in the 400-meter dash. McCoy edged out Ehresman for second in the 200 meters in 24.89 to Ehresman’s third-place time of 24.90.

Lynnville-Sully’s shuttle hurdle relay team of Carson Dunsbergen, Tyson Vander Linden and Jesse Van Wyk captured first place in 1 minute, 8.08 seconds. The Hawks’ other shuttle hurdle team of Gage Vander Leest, Colten Arment, Ryan Hofer and Jason Craver finished second in 1:08.54.

Engle, Zylstra, Ross Van Wyk and Max Knapp combined to win the 4x200-meter relay race in 1:40.74. In the 4x100 relay race, the Hawks’ foursome of Zylstra, Nate Stock, Arment and Ross Van Wyk took second in 47.90 seconds while Caden Dunsbergen, Vander Linden, Vander Leest and Engle posted a fourth-place time of 48.36.

Hofer and Arment went second and third, respectively, in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.34 seconds and 17.41. Jesse Van Wyk was sixth in 24.81. In the 400 hurdles, Vander Linden, Vander Leest and Carson Dunsbergen were third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in 1:04.90, 1:05.89 and 1:07.25.

Stock took third in the long jump with a leap of 17-4 1/2 with Drake Ehresman placing fourth at 17-2. Hofer, Carson Dunsbergen and McCoy tied for sixth in the high jump, all clearing the bar at 5-6.

Canyon Kuhlmann ran second in the 800-meter read in 2:28.0, edging out Knapp, who was third in 2:28.28. Kuhlmann finished fourth in the 3,200 run in 11:51.41 and Bryson Barnett was sixth in 15:07.08. Cody Gibbs placed fifth in the 1,600 meters in 5:36.76.

The Hawks’ 4x800 relay team of Luke Jones, Gibbs, Kemper Lukehart and Elijah Collins finished fourth in 10:48.26. In the distance medley relay race, the team of Cayden Johnson, Grant Wehrle, James and Jones placed fourth in 4:28.72.

Lynnville-Sully’s 4x400-meter relay team of Carver, Elijah Collins, Jones and Gibbs took sixth in 4:31.08.

The Hawks are competing at Belle Plaine Thursday.
