Stover’s career night leads Raiders to easy win

WOODWARD — A career night from senior Brady Stover helped the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys’ basketball team snap a 10-game losing streak Thursday night.

Stover poured in 33 points and had three steals as the Raiders sent Woodward-Granger to its 11th straight loss with a 64-46 road victory.

The Raiders led by five at the break but cruised to the easy win after outscoring the Hawks 24-9 in the third quarter.

Stover was 14-of-25 from the floor. His previous career high was 24 points. Junior Hunter McWhirter had 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the win, while freshman Will Clapper added 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Raiders (3-17) came into the game averaging 47 points per contest.

They led 49-29 after three quarters.

Woodward-Granger (2-18) lost its 11th straight game in large part because it made just 15-of-44 from the floor.

Both teams made three 3-pointers and 13 free throws.

Nick Squires had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Grant Krichel put in 10 points for the Hawks.

The win gives CMB a little bit of momentum heading into the regular season finale at Gilbert. That game tips off at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Raiders open Class 2A District 13 play against Woodward Academy (5-16) at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Madrid.

Woodward Academy has lost 11 of its last 13 games. One of the two wins was an 80-63 victory over Woodward-Granger back on Jan. 19. Those two teams split their two meetings this season.
