Man arrested after pursuit, shots fired

DES MOINES (AP) — Des Moines police say an officer fired at a man who was driving toward him, but no one was injured.

The shooting occurred early Wednesday when police pursued a vehicle. The driver lost control and stopped.

An officer approached the man, who started driving again, this time toward the officer. The officer opened fire, but the vehicle continued.

The man was caught within minutes after he stopped the vehicle and tried to run away.

Police charged 25-year-old Austin Allen, of Des Moines. Charges include assault with a weapon on police, second-degree theft, and eluding. He had felony warrants out of West Des Moines and Kansas for theft and robbery, including theft of the vehicle he was allegedly driving during the incident.

Court records don’t list an attorney who could comment.
