EDDYVILLE — The Colfax-Mingo girls basketball team out-rebounded Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont by 25, but a poor shooting night and 22 steals by the Rockets were too much to overcome on the scoreboard.
The Tigerhawks made 10-of-50 from the floor and struggled to slow down the South Central Conference champions in a 60-34 non-conference road loss Monday night.
The Rockets (15-6) led 13-6 after one quarter and grabbed a nine-point lead at the break. The second half was a 31-14 advantage in favor of the home team.
Payton Rhone buried all four of her 3-point attempts and scored 12 points on the night. Ries Wilson finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Amy Russell added seven points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Dakota Hostetter collected eight rebounds. McKeely Tjaden had four assists.
Claire Jager had 24 points to lead the Rockets, who have won four straight games.
The game was Colfax-Mingo’s regular season finale. The Tigerhawks play at 7 p.m. Thursday against North Tama in the first round of the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament in Traer.
The Redhawks (13-8) have won three straight games and finished third in the Iowa Star Conference’s South Division.
