• Jasper County Democratic Central Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at in the Garden Room at Park Centre, 500 First St. N. in Newton. Discussion will include the Feb. 1 precinct caucuses and the upcoming County Convention scheduled for March 12.

• Berg Middle School Drama will host two productions of “Comic Book Artist” at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday at Newton Senior High School. Twenty-seven students are participating from the middle school. The show will bring the incredibly popular comic-book genre to life with this hilarious action-packed superhero saga. Admission is free.

• Masonic Breakfast will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday at Preston Masonic Lodge, 407 W. Second St. in Prairie City.

• Newton High School After Prom Committee will host a pop can drive from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the high school, 800 E. Fourth St. S. in Newton. Donations will go to After Prom activities.

• City Street Project Open House will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Newton Public Works Office, 1700 N. Fourth Ave. W. The City of Newton has completed a preliminary design for the reconstruction of North Fourth Avenue West from West Eighth Street North to West 15th Street North. The city is hosting an open house for this project to obtain public input.
