Ronald “Jack” Ferguson, Sr., 87, of Newton, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at Careage of Newton. A celebration of life will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association may be left at the funeral home.

Jack, the son of Harry and Clara Olive (Ray) Hansen, was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1947, and was a lifelong resident of the Newton area. Jack was united in marriage with Irene Karen Hansen Nov. 26, 1948, in Newton. Jack worked as a construction superintendent for many years for various companies, retiring from Iowa Industrial Erectors in Des Moines. He also was a self employed contractor. Jack was a member of the Carpenter’s Union — Local 106. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening. He also loved reading westerns, country music and going to his grandchildren’s activities.

Those left to honor Jack’s memory are his wife, Irene of Newton; children, Ronald “Jack” (Jean) Ferguson, Jr. of Newton, Karyl (Gail) Engle of Newton, Karen (Chris) Bollhoefer of Newton, and Steve (Sheryl) Ferguson of Grimes; daughter-in-law, Jeanie Ferguson of Arizona; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Barbara (Dyer) Hammer of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Denny Ferguson; and five brothers, Gene, Kenneth, Larry, Jim and Billy Bob in infancy.
