Lois Mae Davids Smith, 84, formerly of Newton, passed away Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at Parkridge Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill.

Visitation for Lois will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Private family graveside service will be at a later date. Lois was born on Sept. 5, 1931, in Livonia, Mo., to parents Marion and Inez Ross Davids. She went to school in Missouri and Iowa and graduated from Cincinnati (Iowa) High School in 1950. Lois worked at the Maytag Corporation in Newton, and retired in 1992, with more than 23 years of service. She was a member of the UAW Local 997. Lois enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers, reading and crocheting were also among her hobbies. Her greatest joy was planning and attending family reunions.

Lois is survived by her children, Larry (Chila) Karas of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Garry (Sandy) Karas of North Kansas City, Mo., Vicky (Gary) Kirkendall of Pella, Terry Karas of Des Moines and Jeff Smith of Pella; brothers, Oscar Davids of Keokuk and Jesse Davids of Colorado Springs, Colo.; as well as 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her son, Jim Karas; parents, Marion and Inez Davids; sisters, Mildred Heminover and Margaret Thomasson; and brothers, Earnest Davids and John Davids.
