VICTOR — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks wrapped up their South Iowa Cedar League West play with a thumping of HLV, 63-22, on the Warriors’ court Tuesday.
The Class 1A 10th-ranked Hawk boys rolled to a 17-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and had the game fully in hand by halftime up 43-13. The entire second half was played under the continuous clock rule. Lynnville-Sully outscored HLV, 20-9 in the second half.
“It was a tough game to get into a flow. We did some good things, but we also need to clean up a few things in practice,” Lynnville-Sully head coach Nick Harthoorn said. “The guys understand attention to detail moving forward is going to be important.”
The Hawks shot 44 percent, 24-of-55, from the field and dropped in 8-of-11 free throw attempts. The Warriors were 8-of-29 from the field for 28 percent and went 6-of-16 at the free-throw line.
Tyler Van Zante hit three 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 15 points. He handed out four assists and made three steals for the Hawks.
Jesse Van Wyk scored 11 points and had two steals. Rylan James tossed in 10 points and controlled six rebounds. Kyle Van Dyke pulled down seven rebounds. Canyon Kuhlmann made two steals and had three assists.
Dalton Kreigel led the Warriors with six points.
Lynnville-Sully improved to 19-1 overall and 15-1 in SICL play. The Hawks finish the regular season at home Friday playing for the SICL championship.
Lynnville-Sully, which tied with Montezuma for the SICL West but won the tiebreaker, host the SICL East champion Keota (15-5, 13-3 SICL) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Sully.
