Branson entertainer coming to Newton’s Cowboy Church

Well known Silver Dollar City performer Danny Eakin is set to bring his “songtellin’” to a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bar None Cowboy Church.

Better known as the “Travelin’ Minstrel of the Ozarks,” Eakin plays the banjo, guitar and harmonica as he sings about life and what comes with it.

Hailing from Booger Holler, Ark., Eakin is a successful performer with seven albums released between 1985 and 1992 including “Danny Eakin & Old Blue,” “LIVE in Ozark Mountain Country,” “Family Christmas with Ole Blue” and “The Years Go Rollin’ By.”

In 1993, Eakin became a founding member of Homestead Pickers, a performance group in Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo. Along with three fellow musicians, Eakin performs hillbilly, bluegrass, gospel and country on fiddles, banjos and harmonicas bringing together comedy mayhem at their longstanding show.

Known as a child of God and a proud hillbilly, Eakin has four priorities, the first being God.

“We hillbillies believe that God is responsible for all things ever ate, heard, felt or smelt as well as all things right sweet and holy about this old world,” Eakin said.

“I’ve been pickin’ and singin’ most all my life ‘bout somethin’ or ‘nother. I guess I learned my love for singin’ from momma, who sung all the time ‘round the house and played her momma’s pump organ,” Eakin said.

Eakin traveled to Chicago, Nashville, Los Angeles along with many other places before he settled down with his two children in Branson in 1984. From that time on he started singing and “songtellin’” on the stages at Silver Dollar City.

“Danny is a well-known artist from Silver Dollar City and I personally know him,” the Rev. Dave Rex said. “He’s pretty high profile. A lot of people have seen him and heard him in Branson. I thought it would be good to bring somebody of his caliber up this way.”
