Boy pleads to manslaughter in sister’s death

WATERLOO — A 15-year-old Waterloo boy accused of fatally shooting his older sister has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

The teen also pleaded guilty Friday to trafficking stolen weapons. Prosecutors say the boy was 14 when he accidentally shot his 15-year-old sister at their home on May 15. The handgun had been stolen during a burglary earlier that day. The boy had been charged with burglary, but the charge was dismissed.

The judge ordered the boy to remain at the State Training School for Boys in Eldora as part of the sentence for the manslaughter charge. The trafficking sentence, which carries a five-year maximum, was deferred until the boy turns 18.
