Des Moines Area Community College will be awarding their very first Valedictorian Scholarship in 2016.

This scholarship will pay DMACC’s fees and tuition for up to four semesters, award $500 per academic year for books and school supplies and guarantee automatic entry into DMACC’s Honors Program. The estimated value of this scholarship is $9,580.

The minimum criteria required in order to qualify for the DMACC Valedictorian Scholarship includes:

• Valedictorian of high school class

• ACT Composite score of 26 or greater, or score of 1670 on SAT math, verbal and writing combined, or equivalent COMPASS placement scores and completion of the DMACC ALEKS math assessment

• Weighted or unweighted 3.5 cumulative GPA

• DMACC must be the first college students attend after high school graduation

• Maintain enrollment in a minimum of 12 DMACC credit hours by the end of the drop/add period for the regular 16-week academic term

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must submit their application to DMACC as an in-state student, their application to the DMACC Honors Program as a valedictorian and their official Iowa high school transcript for proof of valedictorian status.

To renew the scholarship, students must successfully complete 12 or more DMACC credit hours during any semester in which they are receiving the scholarship, maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA at DMACC and maintain Good Standing in the DMACC Honors Program.

Good Standing requires successful completion of one discipline course for Honors credit each semester that the student receives the scholarship, completion of HON 100 with a B or above during the student’s first semester in the Honors Program and completion of HON 200 with a B or above during the student’s final semester in the Honors Program.

“We are very excited to offer this scholarship to Iowa’s top high school seniors,” said Sarah Waddle, the Director of the Honors Program at DMACC. “We want these talented and hard-worked students to know there is a place for them at DMACC, and we hope to see them in the fall.”
