Ronald Lee "Moe" Deaton, 73, of Mingo, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at his home. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Greencastle Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Delbert and Mae (Boucher) Deaton, Moe was born April 17, 1942, in Iowa City. He attended school in Mingo. Moe served in the United States Army. On Oct. 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to Linda Epps at the Mingo United Methodist Church. Moe worked at Pulley Grain and Van Dusseldorp’s for many years and also several trucking companies. He retired out of Mid Seven Transportation after 27 years. He enjoyed gardening, mowing yards and complaining. Moe was also a member of the Mingo American Legion Post 534.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Linda; brothers, Sonny and Sharon Deaton of Mingo and David Deaton of Baxter and Bert Deaton of Newton; step brothers and sisters, Tim and Wanda Deaton of Newton, Pam and Mike Czerwiec of Florida, Brenda and Michael Hanson of Newton, and Debra McNeely of Altoona; aunts, Clara Townsend of Baxter and Marianne Peck of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his wife’s siblings, Virgil and Rosie Epps of Decatur, Paul and Glenda Epps of Hemet, Calif., Ruth Baird of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Carol Tiffany of Newton, Dennis Epps of Des Moines, Fran Gabrielson of Phoenix, Ariz., Beverly and Jerry Epps of Marietta, Ga., and Pam and Dan Straight of Kellerton. Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Melissa Deaton; a son, Troy Deaton; sisters, Betty Westburg and Kathy Deaton; a brother, John Deaton; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Culp, Don Epps, Sandra Thomas, Russell Epps and Keith Tiffany.
