Ranked Grand View Christian sweeps CMB

ANKENY — Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s boys basketball team played right with Class 1A No. 9 Grand View Christian during the first quarter of Monday’s non-conference contest.

The Thunder scored the first 16 points of the second quarter though and never looked back during a 72-36 home win.

CMB trailed 21-16 after one quarter but the 16-0 run by GVC (16-0) made it 37-16 midway through the second.

It was 49-21 at halftime, and the Raiders trailed 66-32 after three quarters.

Will Clapper had 12 points to lead the Raiders (2-15). No one else scored more than six as CMB lost its eighth straight game.

Noah Burt had 17 points to lead Grand View Christian, while Robbie Seyler scored 13 and Stephen Glenn chipped in 10.

The Thunder were 11-of-21 from 3-point range, while CMB was 0-for-7.

CMB plays at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Heart of Iowa Conference foe Roland-Story in Baxter.

GIRLS

Grand View Christian 70, CMB 32

The CMB girls couldn’t hand eighth-ranked Grand View Christian its first loss of the season Monday night.

The Thunder led 45-18 at halftime and cruised to an easy 38-point victory. Katie Hall had 28 points and Megan Stubbs scored 18 for Grand View Christian, which improved to 16-0 on the year.

Mikayla Eslinger scored 12 to lead CMB, which fell to 2-16 on the season. Kathleen Baldwin finished with eight and Josie Wierson scored a career-high seven in the loss.

Carter Larson returned from injury but was held to just three points. Elizabeth Jones scored four.

The Thunder made 17-of-22 from the free-throw line, while CMB hit 4-of-8.

The Raiders play at 6 p.m. Friday against Roland-Story in Baxter.
