Philip Troyke, of Newton, passed from this life Sunday morning, Jan. 31, 2016, at Park Centre in Newton, under the care of WesleyLife Hospice.

Philip David Troyke, 88, the son of Albert L. and Gertrude (Fabri) Troyke, was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Lombard, Ill. He was a graduate of Glenbard Senior High in Glen Ellyn, Ill., and served his country in the U.S. Army including two years in Japan during World War II.

On Jan. 10, 1953, Philip was united in marriage with Margaret Louise “Peg” Clough in Elmhurst, Ill. They were residents of Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, Ill., and moved to Hemet, Calif., in 1982, and then to Newton in 2008. For more than 35 years, Philip was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1982. Philip was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton.

Philip is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret “Peg;” his daughters, Diane (Tim) Clark of Poway, Calif., and Debra (Martin) Stratton of Newton; his six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters and brother, Albert Troyke, Leila Schlak and Helen Rakow; and many friends.

Those that welcome him in heaven are his parents; a great-grandson Charlie Stratton; two brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton, with the burial at Newton Union Cemetery, Veteran’s Section. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Philip’s name with his family or to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or WesleyLife Hospice.
