Cardinal JV wrestlers get mat time

GRIMES — Newton High’s junior varsity wrestlers competed in Monday’s Dallas Center-Grimes JV Tournament.

Harley Walker went 2-0 with wins over Brady Perry of ADM and Mateo Cortez of Norwalk. Blayden Rhone defeated Spencer Mauss of Grinnell in his lone match of the meet.

Three Cardinal wrestlers were 1-1 in competition. Coltin Whitten beat Mason Rudkin of West Marshall and lost to Miguel Gonzalez of Perry. Landon Hansen notched a win over Brady Howard of Panorama and lost to Jacob Phifner of ADM. Reece Caves defeated Ethan Kirby of Grinnell and lost to Bryson Cline of Grinnell.

Jaise Gulling dropped matches to Chase Belton of Knoxville and Mauss of Grinnell. Spencer Patterson lost to Grinnell’s Wyatt Dillon and Adam Gruman.

Austin Romberg lost to Jay Calentine of Nevada and Trey Wulf of Norwalk. Reed Shepard went 0-2 with losses to Connor Van Pelt of Winterset and Jack Palen of Norwalk.

The Cardinal junior varsity concludes its season Feb. 11 at a tournament hosted by Boone.
