Konek, PC expands business to Newton

A new certified public accountant is in Newton, but he is already familiar with the community.

Kurt Konek of Konek, PC brought his successful CPA firm to town in December, after already establishing roots in Newton.

“I currently serve as treasurer for the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce and have been working with a number of individual and business for a long time. We have considered starting a location in Newton for a long time and whole process was accelerated when Alan Stout called,” Konek said.

Stout contacted Konek about coming to Newton and helping his clients following some health issues. Konek jumped at the opportunity to expand his business and help out a colleague.

“We’ve always been interested in going (to Newton),” Konek said.

Along with the new location in Newton, Konek is also located in Sully, Boone, West Des Moines and his original location in Prairie City. He has served central Iowa for more than 25 years and hopes to bring his experience and knowledge to Newton.

“I acquired the practice in Prairie City in 1986. I had been a CPA for a while and a practice opened up at that time and I was interested in going off and trying it on my own. I kind of had the entrepreneur spirit and wanted to try it out,” Konek said.

The office will be open and staffed year-round. Services provided include business and individual income tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll services, estate planning, budgeting, business succession planning and business start-up consultations.

“We do a lot of consulting for businesses, we help people talk through the whole start of process and a business plan with budgeting,” Konek said.

The office manager in Newton is Jessie Simbro, CPA. Also serving in this location is Jeremiah Schlegel, CPA and Stout’s longtime team members Barbara Daughterty and Nancy Mikkelson.
