Ranked Montezuma cruises past Colfax-Mingo girls

MONTEZUMA — Colfax-Mingo’s girls basketball team just couldn’t get its offense going Tuesday night during a road loss to Class 1A No. 15 Montezuma during South Iowa Cedar League play.

The Tigerhawks made 6-of-28 from the floor and only two players reached the scoring column during a 56-22 loss to the Bravettes, who also had 21 steals in the win.

Colfax-Mingo trailed Montezuma 15-4 after one quarter and fell behind 25-9 at the break. The Bravettes (17-1 overall, 13-1 in SICL) outscored the Tigerhawks 31-13 in the second half.

Sophomore McKeely Tjaden had 15 of the Tigerhawks’ 22 points, while junior Dakota Hostetter had the other seven.

Hostetter chipped in five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Ries Wilson had a team-high six boards as well as two steals and two blocks.

Montezuma’s Breck Goodman led all scorers with 16 points and pulled down six rebounds. Katie Maschmann finished with 14 points, while Shelby Helm tallied 11 points and six rebounds.

Colfax-Mingo (5-12, 5-9) next plays at 6 p.m. Friday at SICL foe BGM.
