Iowa Heart Center opens Newton office

Skiff Medical Center has announced Iowa Heart Center has opened an office in the Ross Medical Arts Building portion of the hospital. The new service will ensure local residents have access to cardiology services without needing to travel.

Iowa Heart Center cardiologists Philip Bear, D.O., and Michael Fraizer, M.D., are offering appointments in Newton, with services including cardiac office visits and consultations and holter monitors.

Bear, a native of Des Moines, received his medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines (now Des Moines University). He completed his residency at the University of Missouri Hospitals in Kansas City, as well as an invasive cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He joined Iowa Heart Center in 1989 and is board certified in cardiology. He and his wife Robin have three children and in his spare time, Bear enjoys golfing, fishing, reading and volunteering.

Fraizer, a native of Des Moines, holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, and a medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver, and cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He joined Iowa Heart Center in 2004 and is board certified in general and interventional cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. He and his wife Lisa have three children and in his spare time, he enjoys attending his kids’ activities, traveling, running and occasionally doing triathlons.

“We are excited to bring regular cardiology services to Newton and Skiff Medical Center,” Fraizer said. “Iowa Heart Center is happy to serve the people of Newton and surrounding communities and provide expert cardiac care close to home.”

“It is so exciting to have additional cardiology services,” said Skiff CEO Brett Altman. “This clinic will help fulfill important access to quality health care close to home. There were many reasons we opted to become part of Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines, but one of the most important reasons, if not the most important, is expanded local health-care services. Every time we can offer a service, a procedure or a provider here in Newton that wasn’t here before, something a patient would have previously had to drive elsewhere to access, that is a time where we are living our mission and making lives better.”

The Iowa Heart Center – Newton office is located in the lower level of the Ross Medical Arts Building at 300 N. Fourth Ave. E, Suite 160, and is easily accessed from the northeast corner of the Skiff campus. Scheduling hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. To make an appointment or referral, call 641-841-1400 or 844-774-3278.
