Lynnville-Sully’s Ehresman, Parkinson are selected to Iowa Shrine Bowl team

Sage Ehresman powered Lynnville-Sully’s offense the past two seasons. The 5-foot-9-inch senior running back has had back-to-back 1,000-plus yards rushing for the Hawks.

Under the direction of head coach Mike Parkinson, Lynnville-Sully has made the playoffs three of four years. Ehresman and Parkinson will be representing Lynnville-Sully in the 2016 Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic July 23 at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls.

The Iowa High School Football Coaches Association selected the coaches and players for the two teams for the 44th annual charity game. The selections are made from nominations received from the high school coaches around the state.

“I’m really proud to say I can coach Sage again and be part of this great tradition,” Parkinson said. “The Shrine Bowl is more than a football game. During the Shrine Bowl week, we give back to those who are less fortunate in a variety of ways.

“This will be a great learning experience for both Sage and myself, and we are both honored and humbled to get this opportunity. As the Shrine Bowl motto goes, ‘Strong Legs Run, so Weak Legs May Walk.’”

Ehresman, who rushed for 1,392 yards on 282 carries for the Hawks, was selected as a running back for the South Team. Parkinson is an assistant coach on South head coach Mike Whisner’s coaching staff.
