Mustang grapplers claim three titles, place sixth at ADM

ADEL — Prairie City-Monroe’s wrestling team claimed three more individual titles on Saturday during the ADM Invitational.

Junior Xavier Miller (145) and freshmen Lucas Roland (138) and Wes Cummings (152) all went 3-0 en route to the championship in their respective weight classes. That led the Mustangs to a sixth-place finish in the 10-team field.

Winning the team title was Atlantic, which finished with 189 points.

Host ADM was second with 172.5 followed by Ames (167.5), Dallas Center-Grimes (159) and Waukee (126.5).

Roland-Story was seventh with 99 points and Nevada ended up 10th with 45.

Roland won the 138-pound weight class with two pins and an 11-0 major decision. He improved to 27-2 on the year.

Roland was the No. 2 seed in the tourney. He defeated Conner Christensen of 3A Ames in the title match.

Miller won his first match by fall, his semifinal bout 11-0 and then rolled by technical fall in the championship match over second-seeded Clay Selberg of Red Oak.

Miller is 29-4 on the year and the final win Saturday was the 95th of his career.

Cummings, ranked No. 8 in Class 2A at 152 pounds, improved to 23-1 on the season following two win by falls and a 10-8 decision over top-seeded Dallas Miles of 3A Dallas Center-Grimes.

Freshman Jarron Trausch was second at 170 pounds.

Trausch won his first match by fall, advanced to the title bout with a 9-5 win and then was pinned by Ames junior Marcus Coleman (28-1).

Also placing in the top six of their respective weight classes were juniors Jakeb Fenton and James Maggard and freshman Brycen Rogers.

Fenton was fourth at 106, while Maggard (160) and Rogers (126) were both sixth.

PCM does not wrestle again until 10 a.m. Saturday when it heads to the Heart of Iowa Conference meet in Nevada.
