C-M girls find win column against Keota, boys’ win streak stopped

KEOTA — Colfax-Mingo’s Tigerhawks snapped a three-game losing streak and kept Keota winless on the season as they rallied from an early deficit to win 37-30 on the road Friday night during South Iowa Cedar League action.

Freshman Mackensie Brown had nine points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead the way. Junior Dakota Hostetter had nine points, six boards and three steals.

Junior Amy Russell finished with eight points, four rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Sophomore Ries Wilson grabbed 10 rebounds and collected three steals.

The Tigerhawks finished with 16 steals in the win.

That helped counter a cold shooting night. Colfax-Mingo was 14-of-47 from the floor and 7-of-16 from the free-throw line.

Colfax-Mingo improved to 3-10 overall and 3-8 in SICL play. Keota is 0-15 overall and 0-11 in league play.

Keota led 12-8 after one quarter but managed just six points in each of the next three frames.

The Tigerhawks trailed by one at the break but outscored the hosts 20-12 in the second half.

KEOTA — Keota snapped the Tigerhawks’ five-game win streak during SICL play Friday night.

The home team trailed by two after one quarter, but went up two at halftime. Colfax-Mingo was down by three after three and battled from behind the entire fourth quarter.

Jarod Nichols kept the Tigerhawks close with three minutes to play.

Keota went up 58-50 a few minutes later. Jared Myers banged in a 3-pointer and Colin Lourens converted a bucket inside the lane to pull the visitors within three with less than a minute to go.

Keota sealed the win by making several free throws in the closing seconds.

Lourens scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed five rebounds in the loss.

Nichols tallied 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Jacob Lietz put in nine points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and had three steals.

Blake Summy had five points and four assists, Jared Myers scored eight points, grabbed five boards and handed out three assists and Michael Deal scored six points and grabbed six boards.

The Tigerhawks fell to 8-4 overall and 7-4 in SICL play, while Keota improved to 10-4 overall and 9-2 in the SICL. Keota also snapped a two-game losing streak.

Colfax-Mingo plays three games this week.

The Tigerhawks travel to SICL rival North Mahaska on Tuesday, host Grand View Christian on Thursday in a non-conference game and stay home Friday for another SICL doubleheader.
