Newton Police Department

• Jerad M. McGinley, 31, of, Newton, is charged with third-degree, theft after authorities were called at 9:56 p.m. Friday to 308 First Ave. E. Officers were called about a man leaving Family Video with DVDs. Officers identified McGinley along with 14 DVDs that totaled $735.34. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Amanda S. McConnell, 25, of Newton, is charged with consumption/intoxication in public places and simple misdemeanor interference with official acts after authorities were called at 11:09 p.m. Saturday to 122 N. Second Ave. W. Officers were called to Scoreboard bar about a fight. They found McConnell lying inside covered in blood. Witnesses said she intentionally broke a glass with her head. She admitted to drinking an excessive amount of alcohol. She was taken to Skiff Medical Center for stitches. While being arrested, she refused to comply with orders and attempted to kick officers. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jeffrey A. Talbot, 53, of Newton, is charged with third-degree burglary after authorities were called at 2:15 p.m. Thursday to 300 N. Fourth Ave. E. Officers were notified about a burglary to a vehicle in the parking lot of the Newton Clinic. They reviewed video and found that Talbot removed the purse from a vehicle that did not belong to him and put it in his vehicle. He admitted to taking the purse but said that he only took it so another person would not take it from the vehicle. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
