Newton Police Department

• Brooke E. Hopkins, 34, of Newton, was arrested on a Polk County warrant after authorities were called at 5:34 a.m. Wednesday to the front office of the police department. She was turned over to Polk County.

• Marques D. Lewis, 34, of Des Moines, is charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled him over at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Highway 14. He was cited and released to appear.

• Somer M. Speer, 28, of Newton, is charged with driving while license suspended and operation without a title after authorities pulled her over at 1:51 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of East 12th Street North. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jamie F. Ray, 35, of Newton, is charged with eight counts of forgery after authorities pulled her over at 8:04 a.m. Dec. 26 at 1214 E. Eighth St. N. Officers were notified by the victim about three checks that were written on a business account and cashed by Ray. During the investigation, officers found video evidence that Ray cashed one of them at Hy-Vee. Five additional checks were found to be cashed by Ray. In total approximately $5,095 was cashed between Sept. 30 and Oct. 16. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jason S. Decker, 33, of Newton, is charged with two counts of forgery after authorities were called at 7:55 a.m. Thursday to 524 N. Third Ave. E. Officers were notified by the victim about seven checks that were written on a business account, two of which were cashed by Decker totaling approximately $990. During the investigation, officers found video evidence of Decker cashing the checks. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jody N. Collins, 43, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault after authorities were called at 7 a.m. Wednesday to the 200 block of North Second Avenue West. Officers were called about a female knocking on the exterior windows of the county attorney’s office yelling for someone to call 911. They found the victim who complained of pain to her head, shoulder and arm from an assault by Collins. The victim accused Collins of striking her repeatedly in the back of the head, pulling her hair and twisting her arm. There were no visible injuries but the victim complained of pain. Collins admitted to arguing with the victim but denied striking her. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
