Francis Porter, 79, of Newton died Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center. A celebration of Francis’ life will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Francis’ name may be left at the funeral home.

Francis, the son of Glenn and Mary (Wildman) Porter, was born Dec. 29, 1935. He grew up by Vincent, where he also graduated from high school. He then served his country in the U.S. Army. Francis was united in marriage with Karen Mosher March 29, 1969 in Clarion. They made their home in Eagle Grove for 38 years before moving to Newton, in July of 2004. Francis worked as a mechanic for Lyle’s Ford/Mercury in Eagle Grove for 35 years. In Newton, he worked for the Newton Daily News delivering newspapers. He was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove before transferring his membership to the First Lutheran Church in Newton. Francis enjoyed drinking root beer, cars and watching television; his favorite shows included Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, college and professional football and car racing.

Those left to honor Francis’ memory are his children, John (Elizabeth) Porter of Virginia, Kimberly (Russell) Ashley of Arkansas, Kelly Lewerenz (Scott Dundee) of Illinois, Kerby Porter (Krissi Stevens) of Newton, and Kirk Porter of Newton; seven grandchildren, L.J. Howieson, Logan Howieson, Kaitlyn Howieson, Kelsey Howieson, Brooke Porter, Cameron Porter and Baylee Porter; one great-grandchild on the way; his brothers, Emil Porter and Russell Porter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen Porter; and his brothers and sisters.
