SUMNER — A northeast Iowa woman is preparing to celebrate her 111th birthday, and friends say she’s still enjoying life.
Emma Hough’s Dec. 2 birthday will make her the oldest resident in the state’s voluntary database of centenarians. A community celebration is planned on Dec. 6 in the chapel at Hillcrest Home in Sumner. She spent Wednesday morning playing balloon volleyball with friends, and she often takes excursions on golf carts around town. Until recently, she walked the halls and grounds at Hillcrest Home on her own.
