R. Dean Grimes

R. Dean Grimes, 74, of Grand Mound, died late Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Dean was born Feb. 16, 1941, in Albia, to Richard Hillis and Wilma Eva (Cozad) Grimes.  Dean was a graduate of Newton High School in 1959. On July 15, 1961, he was united in marriage to Ilene Pickett at E & R Evangelical Church at rural Newton.  The couple resided most of their life and raised their family on their acreage in rural Grand Mound. Dean worked at Maytag in Newton, and John Deere in Dubuque, for a short time before working for Alcoa in Riverdale, for 38 years until retirement.

He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, the Indianapolis Colts, western movies, driving tractors, helping his son-in-law on the farm and family get-togethers. He took great pride in working around his acreage. Most of all, Dean loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ilene; children, Sharri (Jayce) Block of DeWitt, and Kirk (Jodi) Grimes of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Cole, Clayton and Cody Block and Hawken Grimes; step-grandchildren, Chelsea and Cale Hamilton; brothers, Joe (Doris), Gary (Connie), Dwight (Jeannette), Hoyt (Jill) and Randy (Pam); nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dean in death were his parents.

The family received relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home in Grand Mound Sunday, Nov. 15.  A service was 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at the funeral home.  Burial will be at St. John Cemetery, rural Newton.

Pallbearers will be Cole Block, Clayton Block, Cody Block, Hawken Grimes, Cale Hamilton, and Brad Grimes.
