Newton Police Department

• Joseph P. McNamara, 61, of Newton, is charged with third-degree harassment after authorities were called at 5:18 p.m. Tuesday to 101 W. Fourth St. S. McNamara had communications through text that were causing an annoyance and alarm after he was told by authorities not to. He was cited and released to appear.

• Auston Shephard, 18, of Newton, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and controlled substance violation after authorities pulled him over at 1:06 a.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of First Avenue West. The officers could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle and the two males in the vehicle gave up a grinder, scale, a box of opened baggies and two pipes. Additional baggies were found with smaller baggies having marijuana in them. The total weight is 16.4 grams. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• A 16-year-old juvenile is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and controlled substance violation after authorities pulled him over at 1:06 a.m. Wednesday on First Avenue West. Officers saw a vehicle with the wrong plates and officers spoke with the driver when there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The juvenile admitted to just smoking marijuana and said there were pipes and a baggie with marijuana residue in it in the car. He was cited and released to appear.
