Full slate of county events set for Veterans Day

There are several events open to the public scheduled to take place in Jasper County on Wednesday in honor of Veterans Day. Here are a few:

Jasper County Veterans Council services, Newton

DMACC-Newton auditorium, 11 a.m.

Program: American Legion Post 111 Riders

Call to order: Levi Pence

Posting of Colors: VFW Post 1655, American Legion Post 111

Invocation: Rev. Eldon Pals

Performance of national anthem: Ret. Sgt. Maj. Gary Barrett, U.S. Army.

Address: Sgt. Maj. Barrett.

Bagpipes: Ron Husted.

Salute to veterans: Multiple groups.

Baxter Schools

Baxter Schools Veterans Day Program: 10 a.m.

Pancake and Sausage Supper

Baxter Legion Post 493 will be hosting a supper, prepared by Chris Cakes, as a scholarship fund raiser from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Baxter Community School. Veterans will eat free.

A Veterans Day program, to include patriotic music and presentations, is set for 7 p.m. in the school gym. The keynote address will be given by Lt. Col. (Ret.) Lynn Harnden, who served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He will share his military life experience.

Veterans are asked to bring service memorabilia to display for the public to enjoy. There will be tables available for displays.

Veterans Day assembly, 8:40 a.m. to 9:25 a.m.

Prairie City-Monroe
Middle School

PCM Middle School will be hosting a Veterans Day Assembly at 9 a.m in the auditorium.

Veterans, current active-duty members, family members and members of our communities are invited to this event. Coffee and donuts will be served prior to the assembly from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
