James Strovers

James Henry “Jim” Strovers, 76, of rural Newton, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at his home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m.,Friday, Nov. 6, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday. Memorials to the Reasnor Fire Department or the Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg may be left at the funeral home.

Jim, the son of Lester R. and Alice (Allen) Strovers, was born Jan. 10, 1939, in Grinnell. Jim graduated from Newton High School in 1958. On Feb. 9, 1963, he was united in marriage with Virginia Banks at the Little Brown Church in Nassua. Jim was a farmer and had farmed for 51 years in the Kellogg and Newton areas. He also worked for Manatts in Newton for 20 years.

Those left to honor Jim’s memory are his wife, Virginia of rural Newton; siblings, Mary Lou Fairleigh of Torrance, Calif., Norma Jean Clubb of Mt. Pleasant, Betty Steenhoek of Kellogg, Peggie Farver of Monroe, Ken Strovers of Hawaii, Janice Strovers of Kellogg, Beverly Strovers of Oroville, Calif., Wayne Strovers (Ilona) of Chariton, Denny Strovers of Oroville and David (Karen) Strovers of Kellogg; his sister-in-law, Doris Strovers; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lester Strovers, Jr. and Vernon Strovers; sister, Dorothy Strovers; his brothers-in-law, Richard Fairleigh, Bill Steenhoek and Lyle Farver; and sister-in-law, Dottie Strovers.
